Antananarivo, August 7, 2025 – Ahead of the 45th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), scheduled for August 17, His Excellency Elias Mpedi Magosi, Executive Secretary of SADC, was received in audience by His Excellency Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar.

This courtesy visit is part of ongoing preparations for the Summit, which will be held at the Ivato Conference Center in Antananarivo. During this meeting, the Executive Secretary was briefed on the progress of the logistical, security, and protocol arrangements put in place by Madagascar to ensure the smooth running of this major regional event.

The 45th Summit will mark an important moment for the Republic of Madagascar, which will officially assume the SADC Chair. On this occasion, President Andry Rajoelina will succeed His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, as head of the regional organization.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government, the SADC’s highest decision-making body, defines strategic directions and ensures the implementation of the Community’s programs and objectives for the benefit of the region’s populations.

The Republic of Madagascar reaffirms its commitment to making this Summit a success, one that lives up to the ambitions of cooperation, integration, and development shared by the 16 SADC Member States.
