Antananarivo, August 12, 2025 – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers opened its work this Tuesday in the Malagasy capital, marking a major milestone in the 45th Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The opening ceremony featured official addresses by His Excellency Mr. Elias M. Magosi, Executive Secretary of SADC, and His Excellency Professor Amon Murwira, outgoing Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

One of the highlights of the day was the official handover of the Chairpersonship of the Council of Ministers. H.E. Professor Amon Murwira handed over his responsibilities to H.E. Dr. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Madagascar, who will now assume this role for a one-year term.

This succession symbolizes Madagascar’s commitment to playing a leading role in consolidating regional cooperation and building a prosperous and united future for the peoples of SADC.
