Antananarivo, August 14, 2025 – The University of Antananarivo hosted a public conference as part of the 45th Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), bringing together researchers, academics, students, decision-makers, and economic stakeholders from all member countries.

Focused on the theme “Regional Integration: A Lever to Accelerate the Energy Transition and Agricultural Transformation,” this meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways and means of strengthening regional cooperation to address Southern Africa’s energy, food, and economic challenges.

The discussions highlighted three strategic priorities:

Accelerating the energy transition to ensure access to clean, affordable, and competitive energy;
Stimulating agricultural transformation to strengthen food security and create sustainable jobs;
Promoting scientific and technological cooperation to develop innovative solutions adapted to local realities.

At the dawn of the Malagasy presidency of SADC for the period 2025-2026, this conference reaffirmed the collective will of the member states to transform regional ambitions into concrete actions, in the service of inclusive and sustainable development for the entire region.
