Morning
Centre d'Art Contemporain
From April 11, 2025 to March 21, 2026, Fondation H invites British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare for a carte blanche entitled Safiotra [Hybridités/Hybridities], his first major exhibition on the African continent.
On the ground floor, the exhibition features a monograph of works spanning 20 years of Shonibare’s career, including The African Library (2018), a work from the permanent collection of Fondation H. This monumental installation comprises 6,000 books wrapped in Dutch wax-printed fabric, half of which is stamped with the name of a personality who shaped post-colonial Africa. The installation is complemented by a digital interface providing historical and biographical information on these personalities.
Echoing Shonibare’s monograph on the ground floor, the Safiotra exhibition is complemented upstairs by a selection of works from the Fondation H collection. Shonibare selects works by 19 African and Afro-descendant artists from his generation and beyond, and offers a reading of the Fondation H collection in dialogue with his monographic exhibition.

Rova of Manjakamiadana in the Upper Town
The Rovan’i Manjakamiadana, or Queen’s Palace, is an iconic historic site in Antananarivo, a former 19th-century royal residence. It comprises several palaces, tombs, and a necropolis. Restored after a fire, it reopened to the public on June 19, 2023, featuring a room dedicated to Queen Ranavalona III and royal relics. The site, which offers a panoramic view of the city, remains a powerful symbol of Malagasy history, although the recent construction of a coliseum has sparked unavoidable controversy for anyone wishing to explore Madagascar’s history and heritage.
